Plant biostimulant products face an uncertain regulatory future in the United States. While agricultural, agronomic and economic factors are aligning to portend strong global growth in the plant biostimulants market over the next five years, an uncertain regulatory outlook could substantially hinder the growth of the U.S. plant biostimulants market.
It is possible, however, that a process underway at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and a parallel process by the U.S. EPA to provide regulatory clarity to plant biostimulant products under its jurisdiction, could help to reduce the underlying regulatory uncertainty facing plant biostimulants in the United States. These processes may constitute the first tentative steps toward a rational regulatory scheme for plant biostimulants in the United States.
