Gert Jan Wolf - Critical Communications Review

Gert has established himself as the face and mouth piece for the critical communications industry. His platform - The Critical Communications Review, has become the place to keep completely up to date and his Vlogs have introduced a fresh and in-depth look into the organisations, projects and solutions in the industry

David Adams - PCTEL

David has lead the charge for applying technology to improve public safety and testing compliance with IFC & NFPA in-building coverage requirements. His commitment to the team has been outstanding, leading the way in this much needed change.

Christian Regnier - Air France

Air France launched an experimentation of private LTE Network in band 38 (2.6 GHZ TDD) in Roissy airport. The goal is to ensure that the LTE coverage and infrastructure will be aligned with the current usage of critical communications on the airport (Outdoor WIFI coverage on plane parks and voice Tetra PMR replacement) and also to answer to the digital operations. Next to that, it is also a way to show to the internal AIR France Businesses and ARCEP the real benefits of this technology applied over private frequencies. This experimentation gives us the opportunity to test different use cases previously defined with Engineering & Maintenance and Ground Services staff. We have also tested an interconnection between our TETRA network and our dedicated LTE network in order to facilitate the change management in case of migration.

Our mid-term objective is to connect our air fleet to this infrastructure to get back our flight parameters faster and/or to make predictive maintenance. These usages and this technology fit perfectly with Air France hubs (Orly and Roissy CDG) digitalization strategy. LTE Technology, as implemented by IT team, seems being adapted to airport connectivity issues while respecting security constraints.

Eileen Rubiera - Alberta Energy Regulator

Eileen Rubiera works for the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) which ensures the safe, efficient, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of hydrocarbon resources over their entire life cycle. This includes allocating and conserving water resources, managing public lands, and protecting the environment. In 2016, the Fort McMurray wildfire forced 88,000 people to relocate, as the fire spread over 590,000 hectares. Oil sands production in the area was shut down or scaled back, reducing production by one million barrels per day, roughly 25% of Canada’s daily production. The challenge was to map out the natural disaster, track people, buildings, and environmental factors in real time. Eileen coordinated AER staff, agencies, and producers. She applied existing technologies to map fire danger zones, utilizing an application of all industry assets (facilities, wells, compressor stations, pipelines, and access roads) in Alberta. They added real time environmental information, (wind direction/speed, weather conditions, etc). Information was added from agencies such as Government of Alberta, Provincial Operations Centre, and the AER’s Emergency Coordination Centre. The result was that companies used the new solution to track projects and resources in the danger zone. Benefits: - First responders made decisions around evacuations and protection of critical infrastructure in real time
